First meeting of the Supervisory Board
On March 22, 2021, the first meeting of the Foundation’s Supervisory Board was held. At the meeting, the Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy and President and Chairman of VTB Bank’s Management Board Andrey Kostin agreed on the Foundation’s strategy and financial plan for 2021.
“We challenged ourselves with a very ambitious and relevant task – to launch a project that would, in the foreseeable future, literally within the next few years, help today’s undergraduate and graduate students successfully integrate with the international academic community. Science is international, and we want our mathematicians to be a part of the international community but work and live in Russia. This requires a comfortable environment, competitive scholarships during the period of study and competitive salaries after graduation, access to the latest developments and state-of-the-art methods. It’s also very important for us to give our students a choice: to remain in the academic world or continue their career in the finance industry – and we are ready to support them in either decision. Our project envisions work on many levels: invitation of acclaimed global experts to read lectures and conduct seminars, as well as organization of research groups and labs, which should help with creating an environment that promotes the fast, quality growth of a new generation of academics and market professionals,” said the Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Victor Sadovnichy.
“I’m very excited about the idea of continuing the strong mathematical tradition in Russia and facilitating the global leadership of the national school of financial mathematics. When such project is launched in partnership with the top-ranking faculties of Moscow State University, I am certain of success. The projects of Vega Institute aim to create comfortable conditions that would enable our future experts to concentrate on development of necessary skills and competencies and in the future compete as equals with world-class professionals. In addition, the Foundation will focus its efforts on organization of conferences and seminars for further development of the market professionals and implementation of theoretical research of applicable nature to help solve the industry’s most relevant problems,” said the President and Chairman of VTB Bank’s Management Board Andrey Kostin.
Other members of the Supervisory Council include the Head of Moscow School of Economics of Moscow State University, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Nekipelov, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Shafarevich, Dean of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow State University, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Igor Sokolov, Vice Rector of Moscow State University Nikolay Syomin, Global CEO of VTB Capital Alexey Yakovitsky, Head of the Credit Department, Senior Vice President of VTB Bank Vitaly Bouzoveria, Head of the Coordination and Business Analysis Department, Senior Vice President of VTB Bank Elena Kolesnik, Head of Investment Products Department, Senior Vice President of VTB Bank Alexey Ivanov.
